One of our residents reached a great milestone today, of 100 years. Family and friends came to celebrate with the centenarian. She had a lovely card from the Queen with birthday wishes, had many bouquets of beautiful flowers and three birthday cakes to mention but a few. The party started early in the morning with organist Richard Leighton providing the music, Countrywide gardeners Nick Turner and Stephen Kemp presented bouquets of flowers and helped the ladies to sing ‘happy birthday’ to the birthday girl. In the afternoon Bruce Mcline provided the entertainment and the ladies’ family where joined with a visit from the Mayor of Uttoxeter Sue McGarry and was presented with a lovely basket of flowers. The day before Burton Albion, who run keep fit classes in the home presented her with a card from Mr Clough and all at Burton Albion, cake and scarf which she happily sported. In her lifetime she has seen many things such as four monarchs, 24 prime ministers, 23 Summer Olympic Games and 23 Winter Olympic Games the first being in France in 1924, lived through two world wars, one world cup, seen the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall, witnessed the Space Race and was 50 years old when man landed on the moon! How amazing is that. Happy Birthday from all of us at The Hermitage.
